Tip: Garmin Express is the easiest way to keep your device updated. Download it to your computer, connect your device via USB, and follow the prompts.

Tip: Simrad updates are typically downloaded to a microSD card and installed directly on the unit. Check your model's manual for the correct procedure.

Best Practices

Update Tips

Back up your data first

Before any firmware update, save your waypoints, routes, and settings to a microSD card or USB drive. Updates rarely cause data loss, but it's always smart to have a backup.

Use the correct file for your model

Always verify your exact model number before downloading an update. Installing the wrong firmware can cause issues that require a factory reset or professional service.

Don't interrupt the update

Keep your device powered and connected throughout the update process. A power interruption mid-update can corrupt the firmware.
